Raptor Release
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, AT 4 PM, on our LU quad, students from the Wildlife Club and biologists from USDA Wildlife Services conducted a “show, tell and release of” birds of prey. Te event lasted approximately 30 minutes. Children from the Jefferson City Boys and Girls Club were present. Te entire campus was invited to see the birds “up close” and to watch the release. Approximately 50 children and adults were present to observe the release. Te birds were captured at the St.
Louis International Airport. As some northern birds migrate south to winter in Missouri, they find the airport attractive. For their safety and for the safety of air traffic, the ones that cannot be dissuaded from taking residence are captured and relocated.
