A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FOUNDERS THAT MADE IT ALL POSSIBLE.

THE DREAMERS
ON JANUARY 17, 1866, A CHARTER WAS signed establishing Lincoln Institute in Jefferson City Missouri. Te charter specifically stated:
First, the Institute shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed blacks. Second, it shall be located in the state of Missouri. Tird, its fundamental idea shall be to combine study with labor, so that the old habits of those who have always labored, but never studied, shall not be thereby changed and that emancipated slaves, who have neither capital to spend nor time to lose, may obtain an education.
Much of the information regarding individual founders has been lost over time but, as technology increases, some data about the members of the 62nd and 65th infantries has been revealed. Te Lincoln University Archives and Ethnic Studies Center is compiling a database of the regiments based on muster rolls provided by the Missouri State Museum.
