ROTC Blue Tiger Battalion Leadership Development
IN JUNE AND JULY, THE ROTC BLUE Tiger Battalion sent a total of 11 cadets to the Cadet Leadership Course (CLC; formerly Leader Development and Assessment Course) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. All Cadets successfully completed the course with Cadet Timmy Collier, Dixon, Missouri, receiving a top rating of ‘Outstanding’ (top 15% of all cadets in the nation attending CLC). In July 2LT Sylvester Peoples of Memphis, TN and 2LT Kristen Strein of Jefferson City, MO received their commissions as Second Lieutenants at the end of CLC. From July 3 – 24, Cadet Dru Simpson, Atlanta, Georgia,
completed Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina following his CLC training. CTLT provides Cadets the opportunity to serve in lieutenant-level leadership positions in active-duty units for a 3-4 week duration depending on the hosting unit and location. Cadet Maggie Jones, Memphis, Tennessee, was selected as a
Cadet Initial Entry Training (CIET) leader/trainer at Fort Knox following CLC. From July 3 – 21, Cadet Jones assisted in a wide range
of training events designed to develop and assess leadership and officer potential and qualify Cadets for contracting. For the first time in the history of Lincoln University, two
cadets were selected to attend the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) Cadet Overseas Training Mission. Tis is a highly competitive program designed to provide cadets the opportunity for immersion in the culture of over 40 participating countries. Tese opportunities expose cadets to everyday life in different cultures and intensify language study, which helps produce commissioned officers who possess the right blend of language and cultural skills required to support global operations in the 21st Century. In May and June, Cadet Quran J. Harris, Florissant, Missouri, spent approximately 30 days in Malawi and Cadet Dequan Hayes, Jefferson City, Missouri, was assigned to Tailand. Both cadets commented that this was a rare and rewarding experience and they highly recommend that other Cadets compete for this opportunity.
