ALUMNI AFFAIRS DIRECTOR

Happy 150th Birthday, Lincoln, ‘O Lincoln! ‘We thy proud children are . . .’

Tis is a most historic period with which to be engaged at Lincoln University, for we have reached a most significant milestone in 2016. As our alma mater now celebrates its sesquicentennial as an institution of higher education, we remember its distinction as:

• the ORIGINAL Lincoln University – any and all others adopted the name aſterwards;

• the first institution of any kind in the nation to honor President Abraham Lincoln by naming itself aſter him;

• the only institution of higher education founded by Civil War veterans – specifically the 62nd States Colored Troops.

Te sesquicentennial will be celebrated during every regularly scheduled university event – Founders’ Day, Lincoln Days at the Capitol, Te Gala, Honors Convocation, Spring Fest, Commencement, Casino Night, Opening Convocation and Homecoming. We hope that all alumni and friends travel from near and far to experience these historic festivities. New Orleans, LA is the destination for the 75th

National

Alumni Convention: “Sustaining the Roar - Reinventing Opportunities for Alumni Resurgence,” July 19-24 during the sesquicentennial. Te Lowes Hotel near the historic French Quarter is the host site and registrations are open now. Join us there and “laissez les bon temps rouler!” See the alumni webpage for additional details at http://www.lincolnu.edu/web/ advancement/75th-alumni-convention. Te sesquicentennial is a perfect time to be a part of history

by creating a great legacy. You can inspire others with your philanthropic giſts to Lincoln University. It is our obligation to put back into Lincoln University at least the equivalent of what we took out of it. Te truth is that everyone can be a philanthropist. Mary McLeod Bethune famously stated, “As I give, I get.” In other words, you must give it away to get it back. It is the basic principle of sowing and reaping. Opportunities abound for all alumni to sow financial contributions into the Lincoln University Foundation that can help ensure its legacy for another 150 years.
