His journey has not been without bumps in the road. Early in his high school career, Cody struggled with the constant fear of not being good enough and having to prove himself again and again. He said he had to learn how to believe in himself when other people did not. “I have also had to overcome many physical injuries. From playing with a broken hand, to rolled ankles, to constant knee pain. All of these things have been a constant struggle, but I refused to let them bring me down. So I had to learn how to work at getting stronger and healthier,” he told us. Being able to play the game he loves more than anything is what keeps him going. He knows every opportunity he gets to step on the court is a privilege, and with that, he always feels a sense of accomplishment, with comfort knowing that he is making his family proud, which are parts of the game that make it all worth it. “Basketball has taught me to be relentless and to be passionate about the things that I love,” said Cody. During his high school career, Cody has had a few accolades that he is most proud of accomplishing. Being named to the All-Confer- ence Second Team and receiving All-District MBCA Class 4 District 9 at Eldon, and receiving MVP in the fall league for COMO TNT, plus scoring the most points in a season game, which was 43 points. As he looks forward to graduating and starting the next chapter, Cody hopes to leave behind the Tamm legacy at Eldon High School for all the kids younger than him who dream of playing college bas-
ketball. “Being an athlete is a lot of pressure, and when you set high standards for yourself, you have to also give yourself grace and to have faith in God that He will always be with you,” he shares. “There are a lot of good people in the world, but there are also a lot of negative things in life as well, and I think that my experiences in obstacles, good and bad.”
One rep, practice, and game at a time, Cody Tamm is beating the odds and proving them wrong. Relentless in his journey to college basketball, there is no doubt that he will thrive as a Missouri Valley Viking and beyond.
