at Los Angeles International Airport” As one of the largest infrastructure projects in Los Angeles, the Delta Sky Way Program at Los Angeles International Airport accommodated Delta Air Lines growing operations and its goal of elevating the guest experience. Hensel Phelps overcame major challenges to successfully deliver the multi-phased project, which created a new 27-gate facility consolidating Terminals 2 and 3. Te overarching goal was to reimagine the customer journey from curb to gate. Te project team introduced numerous innovations that elevated industry
standards through advanced construction techniques, sustainable design elements, cutting-edge materials, and new technologies. Extensive use of building information modeling and virtual design and construction improved coordination and efficiency, reducing conflicts and rework. Prefabrication and modular construction saved time and ensured precision, while advanced scheduling minimized disruption to airport operations. Hensel Phelps delivered the project 18 months ahead of schedule and
maintained the highest safety standards, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and operations within the world’s eighth busiest airport. Also selected as finalists in this category were California Rail Builders for
“High Speed Rail: Construction Package 4” and Mortenson for “Edwards and Sanborn Solar and Energy Storage Project.”
