Pier 6 Replacement at Naval Base San Diego” A strong partnership and collaboration between Manson Construction Co. and its client, the Naval Base San Diego, helped drive the successful design-build delivery of the P-443 Pier 6 Replacement project. Te project involved the construction of a new single-deck general-purpose


berthing pier to replace an aging marine structure that was nearing the end of its service life. Te newly designed Pier 6 provides the required capacity to berth four modern naval vessels and includes new and updated mechanical and elec- trical utilities. It supports features such as a guard shack, guard tower, and more. Innovative, detailed design planning and partnership with the project’s


design firm allowed for concurrent demolition and reconstruction of the pier. Manson completed various milestones ahead of schedule, including demo- lition of the existing structure, pile driving operations, and primary concrete


pours. Tanks to the high level of coordination, collaboration, innovation, and planning, Manson completed the project one month ahead of an already aggressive schedule, with no major rework, no claims and no recordable injuries. Also selected as finalists in the Heavy civil $50 Million to $150 Million category were: Granite Construction Company for


“Hwy 101 Segment 4C,” Teichert for “Veterans Boulevard Interchange,” and Bogh Engineering LLC for “Enhanced Recharge Phase 1B project.” And selected as a finalist in the Excellence in Partnering category was Balfour Beatty for “Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC).”
