HEAVY CIVIL $150 MILLION TO $250 MILLION
Lane Connector Design-Build” Te $172 million I-15/SR-91 Express Lane Connector project provided the missing link between two tolled facilities in one of the most heavily traveled corridors in Southern California. Te project included construction of 32 bridge spans and 8 lane miles of pavement as well as a new 1,700-foot Express Lane flyover, two additional bridges, multiple walls and more. Contractor Myers-Rados, a Joint Venture, overcame numerous challeng-
es by implementing effective planning and management techniques. Tey conducted a site-specific analysis of staging and phasing constraints and proactively coordinated with multiple stakeholders to address their needs throughout the project. Just a few examples of the solutions deployed on the project included an
eight-stage construction sequence; complex staging to optimize minimal alignment space for narrow work zones; and achieving maintenance of traffic commitments for two 55-hour closures, which opened early. Tese and many other innovative cost and schedule saving solutions allowed the team to complete this project on budget and on schedule. Also selected as finalists in this category were Balfour Beatty for “Sterling National Resource Center,” and Flatiron for “Route 210 Roadway Rehabilitation.”
