Featured Athlete /// Audrey Dinwiddie, Eldon HS

Driven to Get Better

On the court, in the classroom, and beyond, Audrey Dinwiddie keeps showing up — not just to win, but to grow.

Story By: Abbie Kemna Photography By: Wendy Winters and Front Row Film

Audrey Dinwiddie stands out as a competitor fueled by grit, consistency, and a love for the game. Whether she’s sprinting down the runway for pole vault or diving for a ball on the volleyball court, Audrey shows up with determination and heart. But what truly sets her apart is her unwavering commitment to growth. “My athletic success comes from my drive to succeed, my athletic ability, and my competitiveness,” she says. “I have always been very competitive since I was young, and I think that's where my success comes from because I have the drive to win.” Audrey competes in both   experience. In volleyball, what she values most is the team dynamic. “You

have to work as a team to succeed in volleyball. That means on and off the court, we are always working to build the team,” she says. Track, on the other hand, allows her to test herself as an individual. “Although it’s still a team sport, I do pole vault, so how I do depends on myself, unlike volleyball, where it de- pends on everyone.” That blend of team unity and personal ac- countability has helped shape her approach to both sports and

life. “Some of the life lessons I have learned from my sports are that failing helps you succeed,” she explains. “You have to be okay with failing if you want to finally succeed.” And while she’s avoided major injuries, Audrey has dealt with recurring back pain throughout her athletic career. But she stays focused, positive, and proactive. “I just know I need to push through but still get the help that I need,” she says. 

One coach, in particular, has left a lasting impact. “My most  been the hardest coach I have ever had.
