Despite working punishing schedule, Cushman helped Oakmont produce

From late February to late July of this year, Grant Cushman didn't 40-hour weeks? Forget about it. It was double that.      had? If you guessed two or one, you guessed too high. No, really. The next time you complain about working too much and never 


His streak of six straight months of seven-day work weeks hit a            perintendent at the course. Oakmont is revered as not only one of the best courses in America, but one of the best in the world. And it's considered to be the tough- est test of any course in the major championship rotation. Its motto


 So much for an entry-level job and starting at the bottom. "I feel


very fortunate," said Cushman, 27, who earned his degree in Com-  in Linn in 2020. "The fact that I've been able to stay here as long as I have (six years) and work my way up through the ranks, this place  more thankful for the opportunity I've been given." During normal summers, the grounds crew at Oakmont has about 45 workers. Those numbers grew exponentially leading up to the   blade of grass had to be perfect. "It took an army," Cushman said.
