Changes in the seasonS & CHANGES TO LOCAL DEER HUNTING
Story and Photography By: Missouri Department of Conservation
For many, August marks the start of a changing season. The hot- test days of summer are moving out, and a hint of cooler weather lingers. Schools are back in session, Friday night football games bring towns together, and fall activities inch closer. By September, we’ve settled well into that transition period, and many folks are like pumpkin patches, corn mazes, apple picking, and in mid-Mis- souri, deer hunting.
This year, archery deer season opens on September 15 and con- tinues through November 14. Then, it resumes November 26 through all fall between that September 15 start date and the close of the hunt this fall, make sure you check the updated season opening and closing dates for each hunting portion. While you’re at it, look into other regulation changes as Central Missouri has quite a few changes this year, including new carcass disposal regulations, removal of the antler-point restriction in some counties, and a change to the bag limit Many mid-Missouri counties are now included in the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Management Zone. way, Howard, Moniteau, Cole, Osage, Maries, Morgan, Miller, and others are all a part of this year’s CWD mandatory sampling ef- on November 15 and 16. If you harvest a deer during this weekend in one of the CWD mandatory sampling counties, you must take the full deer or just the head on the day of harvest to a mandatory CWD sampling station. Find a full list of the involved counties and a CWD mandatory sampling station near you in this year’s 2025 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information book- let. These booklets can be found where permits are sold or on the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) website at mdc.
mo.gov under the hunting tab. You can also access a pdf version at
http://short.mdc.mo.gov/4tg.
Other things to remember before hitting the woods this year are to purchase any necessary permits, complete your hunter educa- tion if needed, and refresh your memory on the rules and regulations the 2025 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information booklet or on MDC’s website. If you have questions about the reg- guidance. Otherwise, take time this fall to get outdoors and enjoy the natural world around you!
