and the belief that you can do it is really important in not only soft- ball but in every other aspect of life.”

During the toughest times, Britton reminds herself of why she pushes forward: those around her. “The thought of not letting the people to your left and right down is what motivates me,” Britton said.


One of those around her, teammate Brooklyn Smith, has given Britton and the Southern Boone softball community one of its big- gest challenges.


Smith has fought cancer all throughout high school and is cur- rently undergoing treatment. Britton said in true Southern Boone fashion, the whole community has rallied around Smith. “One of my favorite memories from high school is playing during our Cancer Awareness games,” Britton said. “It is really cool to see the community come together for one cause. The atmosphere during these games is always so fun and I just love it.” As for the upcoming season, Britton said no goal is too high, but 


jersey and to compete with those she loves most. “I think mainly my goal is to have fun for my last season at South- ern Boone,” Britton said. “If I focus on having fun, the numbers will come. I would love for us to win a district title as a team and make a run in the postseason.” She also wants to leave a lasting legacy–one that pro- motes a culture of excellence and joy and that sets an


example for the next generation. “If I could do one thing to leave my mark, it would be for the next generation to compete and have fun doing it,” Britton said. “You can win and also have fun!”
