SUPPORTING YOUR SAFETY

Meet the 2023 Safety & Health Council Leadership

BY CAROL EATON T

he AGC of California Safety & Health Council (SHC) exists to promote safety as a core value in

the construction industry. It serves the needs of AGC of California members and the surrounding community as a technical, informational and educational network and resource. Here, we spotlight the 2023 SHC leadership: Chair Chris Jones and Co-Vice Chairs Justin Wheaton and Devin Caringella. Together they bring a diverse background, extensive expe- rience and a passion and dedication to maximizing the value of SHC for AGC of California members.

Chris Jones

As the corporate director of safety (Southern Region) at ACCO Engi- neered Systems, Jones has over 20 years’ experience working as an environmental health and safety (EHS) professional with responsi- bility for delivering effective envi-

ronmental health and safety programs for construction and hazardous waste companies. He provides regulatory oversight, compliance functions, training, accident investigation, audits and more. Serving as Chair of the SHC in 2023, Jones said he is excited to work with incoming Co-Chairs Justin and Devin. “Tey bring a broad spectrum of insight and experience,” he noted. Why did he get involved in the AGC of California

SHC? “I jumped into this Council because I see now and beyond how this group of professionals can have an incredible impact on the health and safety of our workers,” he said. “Not only in a traditional sense of safety but forging new and more grand safety programs, ideas, and practices.”

As for some of his goals for the year ahead, Jones

commented: “I would like to see our Safety & Health Council develop a learning track that results in a safety professional certification or recognition specific to AGC of California. Tis certification/recognition would be directed toward our newer entrants in the field of environmental health and safety,” he noted. “Lastly, I would like to see the Council continue to develop and grow our already strong foundation of program resources for our members.”
