HEAVY CIVIL $15 MILLION AND UNDER
101 Multi-Use Path Overcrossing at Adobe Creek”” For more than two decades, the City of Palo Alto sought a new overpass over Highway 101 to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists and to enhance local and regional connectivity. Granite Construction was contracted to deliver the new Highway 101 Multi-
Use Path Overcrossing at Adobe Creek. It safely links local neighborhoods and businesses with the vast recreation opportunities to the west of Highway 101 while improving regional connectivity to the rest of Silicon Valley. Te project comprised four primary elements: the principal span struc-
ture, west approach structure, east approach structure and Adobe Creek bridge. To improve end-user satisfaction, Granite incorporated enhanced architectural features such as architectural railings, enhanced lighting, and a viewing overlook on the eastern approach. Working around the Adobe Creek and adjacent Baylands, Granite was sensitive to numerous environmental constraints. Crews safely worked over this busy section of Highway 101 to erect the steel trusses, which required significant nighttime closures. Te team proactively collaborated with stake- holders to deliver a highly successful project. Also selected as finalists in this category were Myers & Sons Construction
for “Joseph Jensen Water Treatment Plant – Modules 2 & 3 Flocculator Re- habilitation” and Skanska for “Otay State Route 11 Siempre Viva Road OC.”
