Who Let the Dogs Out?


This year Annual Sir Bark A. Lots Fashion Paw Tea was an over the top success! SOLD OUT again with a waitlist of guest seeking cancellations to attend. Chef Brett Vibber of Cartwright’s Modern Cuisine, and his team of growing Scott Foundation Thought & Service Leaders did it again! Champagne Welcome Reception, sponsored by Curt Mc- Cormick & Associates, guests and their fashionable fur babies, arrived to appetizers, a silent auction and country recording artist, Shari Rowe performing. As they stroll through the event, they enjoyed a display of this year’s doggie model portraits before heading to the Kissing Booth for their celebrity moment that gave photographers an opportunity to snap their picture before they entered the main event. Tails wagging, once inside, four legged guests were served an organic gourmet meal prepared just for them; their human friends enjoyed a taste of foraged Arizona history in a five- course meal, while having the exclusive attention of Wine Maker, Sam Pillsbury of Pillsbury Wine Company pouring.


This year’s top Doggie Models included Miss Luna, Jimmy Dean, Bear, Kimber, Maver- ick, Sky, Wavy, Indy, Star, Carlos, Gabby, Mollie, Bear, Adele, Bailey, Lexa, Miss Maple, Alison & Kahrma were all gifted a private photo session showcasing their outfits to the event. The kids added a twist of unexpected excitement as they are always encour- aging to break the rules “for good”. This year, they took that literally as SarahAnn Goree didn’t miss a beat when she had recently met Betsy Glatz at a Scott Foundation community gathering; learning that Besty raised goats she invited her to be a part of the fashion show. So, this year, sixteen dogs and a goat took the fur licking runway by storm.


Scott Foundation hosted their Annual Sir Bark A. Lot’s Fashion Paw Tea Fundraising Brunch & Doggie Fashion Show at Cartwright’s Modern Cuisine on Saturday, Novem- ber 16, 2019. This fur licking, dog friendly fundraising event was intended to help raise community awareness, build lifelong donors and raise funds for their Foster Youth Cu- linary & Animal Welfare Programs while teaching compassion and empathy to present Thought & Service Leaders.


What started out 12 years ago as a creative selfless service experience, has grown to the organizations largest fundraising brunch and doggie fashion show of the year. Founder & CEO, Colleen Walski shares that kids in their programs use to host tea parties for animal welfare organizations, this was an easy way for them to practice their reading skills while also being in service to others. That homework didn’t feel so painful when they were in service to others. She goes on to share that privately, the kids often comment that they can totally relate to being the older ones in a system that nobody wants, just like the senior dogs they were helping again this year. This was not just a one-day event as there is a significant amount of work that takes place behind the scene for this event to take place. Year-round, teens work side-by- side with Chef Brett and their Cartwright’s Family at special events and collaboration dinners learning about where food comes from, what balanced nutrition looks like, in-restaurant and catering service options as well as how to prepare specific dishes and serve them. Their hands-on experience working directly with chefs and farmers helps them not only develop culinary skills, but it becomes a very personal connection that builds a deep sense of community and family through the stories they share.
