 Basketball was part of Jim's DNA his entire life. He was a 1,000-point scorer in high school, then won two national champion- ships with Moberly Junior College in 1966-67.


He began his coaching career in 1969 at Cairo High School, lead-


     the state title, he authored many great moments during his 11 sea- sons as head coach, including two other trips to the Final Four.   later became the program's head coach when Byland stepped down


after the 1993 season. "He taught basketball as a concept. If they do this, then you do that. Whatever they did, you could counter it. He was as good a teacher of that as anybody I've been around. He was unbelievable.


"Jim wasn't just a great high school basketball coach, but he also knew how to develop a program. He created a family atmosphere with the way he coached, 100 percent. It was never about him, it was all about the team. There was no one more important than the last guy on the bench."
