 4A. Back in the days when they thought the "A" was still important. Jays head coach Jim Byland always took pride in his team's defense, especially at that time of year. His players certainly  against the Bruins.


At the same time, Byland surely didn't take much pride in his


 bear at the county fair. While the Jays held the Bruins to zero points, the lead going into the second quarter was two. As in, 2-0. Every game can't be a classic, but the classic would be coming. The


 

“Jim wasn’t just a great high school basketball coach, but he also knew how to develop a program. He created a family atmosphere with the way he coached, 100 percent. It was never about him, it was all about the team. There was no one more important than the last guy on the bench.”


"I want to congratulate our team. They certainly hung together through all the good times and bad times," Byland told KRCG's Rod Smith after the 4A state title game. "They played as one ... every time we gave them a challenge, they met it."
