who we instantly know are special. Tey are full of life and constantly seek personal growth. Tey have an innate talent for accomplishing their goals while uplifting those around them. Each year, we nominate and select these individuals within our own profession—the OSCPA Trailblazers. Tey are brilliant examples of the best new accounting professionals in Oklahoma. Tey truly reflect the zeal within all of us and make us proud to be fellow CPAs. Take a moment to read about each 2017 Trailblazer and understand their backgrounds and challenges to appreciate how far they’ve come. Success comes in many forms. Perhaps the best form is one that you can’t see at all. In 1950, Forest E. Witcraft penned an essay for Scouting magazine that included the now-famous quote, “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a boy.” I’m going to modify the parenting role portion to also include interaction with colleagues, clients and friends to read, “But the world may be different because I was important in the life of another.” Sometimes it’s not the outward appearance of success that is the most satisfying; it’s the inner peace of helping others. As we all know, success is a journey and not a destination. People who follow this motto understand success—even happiness—is not a single moment in time upon reaching a goal. Success and happiness are daily, if you allow. Doing what you enjoy every day is already a success. Getting to do what you are passionate
about doing is a blessing beyond measure. What do you think this world would look like if everyone—regardless of the specifics of their jobs—approached their work with passion? Even if you aren’t terribly pleased with your current job, approaching it aiming to do your best and give it your all would provide a hefty dose of inspiration to keep reaching for your goals. Every job worth doing is worth doing well. When I was a child and went with my mom
to the store, like most kids, I asked for something almost every time we went. I would say please and tell her how much I wanted it. I remember she would reply, “Do you always get everything you want?” As children often do, I stayed the course and would not take no for an answer. I would press on—and sometimes I would end up with whatever shiny new object I had convinced my mother I couldn’t live without. I was persistent. Many adults seem to have lost that quality. How many times have you accepted “no” as an answer and moved on without trying again? Similarly, how many times have you encountered obstacles, even failures, and simply given up on that goal? Success is getting up one more time than you fall. Here’s to the 2017 OSCPA Trailblazers—and all the OSCPA members: May you continue to inspire others, enjoy the journey, approach every day with passion and may you always get back up when you fall. See you all at the Annual Members Meeting
on June 9 in Tulsa!
