At the end of June 2016, Toni Griffey, CPA, the owner of Blue Sky CPAs, made the decision to open her own CPA practice.
“Tat decision was very difficult and
extremely scary, since I wanted to start my business from the ground up and not just purchase a client list that didn’t meet my goals and aspirations,” Griffey said. “I noticed that there were a lot of small and emerging businesses that needed accounting and tax services, but the owners didn’t necessarily have the time to leave their office to meet with their CPA nor have the money to pay the large firm prices for such services. Most startup and small business owners are engrained in the day to day business and time is precious.” Griffey, who received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, said, “I based my CPA practice to be a concierge service where I go to their office/location, or remotely work on their books, to keep the business owner doing what they do best: running their businesses.”
“Te transition from employee to
business owner has been an amazing experience,” Griffey said. “It has taught me a lot about pushing my limits as an individual, as well as a professional.” “Toni has always shown her clients and
coworkers that she has high professional standards for herself and her work,” said Eric Danklefsen, CPA. “She works hard to

ensure her clients receive the best service possible.” Griffey, an OSCPA member for almost
five years, is also a past president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Omega Pi chapter; a volunteer organization that works closely with St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Additionally, she volunteers with the Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, serves on the board of Rebuilding Tulsa Together and serves on the Associated Builders and Contractors Young Professionals committee. She’s served as treasurer for the Tulsa Chapter of the American Marketing Association and is also a member of the AICPA and of the OSCPA Tulsa Chapter. She also served on the OSCPA Oil & Gas Committee from 2014 to 2016. Dr. David Kendrick, CEO of
MyHealth Access Network, said, “Toni was able to step into a very bad situation and, through skill and diligence, put the organization’s accounting processes and policies back on track.” However, rescuing clients from “bad
situations” is exactly what Griffey says helps her thrive. “Being able to go out and volunteer at an organization that really needs the hands-on help and not always the professional knowledge, allows me to grow in a different way that forces me not to focus on myself and my business, but on my personal contribution to the community,” Griffey said.
