Courtney Vieta, CPA
Courtney Vieta, CPA, an audit manager Eide Bailly LLP, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, found that creating boundaries in her business life was the secret to success. “When I was younger and it was just my husband and me, I never thought that going into public accounting would be very hard,” Vieta said. “However, once children enter the equation, life in general gets more complicated and tough.” “My husband and I worked out some
new expectations for my current job,” said Vieta. “Tere were times of year that I would be required to work more, but there were also times of year that I could cut back more… Although this will always be a constant battle in life, I learned the value of open and honest communications to help set expectations.” Yet, Vieta admits her honesty almost cost her a promotion. “One of the main values I learned
growing up was to treat others as you want to be treated,” she explained. “However, I began to receive some feedback from staff members who did not like the way I was treating them. Although my intentions were simply to be direct and matter-of- fact, because that is how I enjoy receiving feedback, others felt that I was simply being rude or even disrespectful.” Trough mediation from supervisors and assistance from a colleague, Vieta was able to improve her soft skills.
“I was able to learn how to better read
my coworkers and begin to tailor my approach to each individual to ensure that everyone felt that I was truly on their side and wanted to help them succeed,” Vieta said.
An OSCPA member for nearly five
years, Vieta earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma. Additionally, she assists the CFO of Victory Family Church and is the president and treasurer of her homeowners’ association. Amber Tyler, CPA, an audit partner
at Eide Bailly in Oklahoma City, said, “Courtney consistently exhibits the highest level of professionalism and integrity. She has an outstanding work ethic and high ethical standards in all that she does. She has successfully demonstrated the ability to serve as an audit manager while also being very active in her family life…She frequently serves as a sounding board, mentor and voice of reason for other women facing the difficult situation of making it all work.” And it would seem Vieta has found a
way to “make it all work.” “When I respect my personal time, others do the same,” she said. “I have been home more for family dinners and attended many more sporting events for my kids while keeping the career I love.”
