Charyse Maher, CPA, CGMA
Early in her career, Charyse Maher, CPA, CGMA, knew she had a knack for software. “Every position I have maintained since
2005 has required a software implementation of some nature. I have participated in the process from every level—project manager, consultant, trainer and user,” said Maher, chief financial officer of Bennett Construction, Inc. in Woodward, Oklahoma. Bennett Construction gave Maher the
opportunity to help implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. “Tis requires periodic meetings with owners, operations personnel and accounting personnel to assemble the very best system to accommodate the needs of the company,” Maher said. “During this process, one must transform from the accounting and finance role to embrace the operations and IT needs of the company as well.” “Her accounting knowledge is extensive and she has proven experience in helping companies implement software solutions to better grow their businesses in a financially educated manner,” said Nicole Chase, a coworker and OSCPA student member. “While working for her…she would always push me to do more and achieve more. She is a big reason I was able to complete my accounting degree and she is the reason I am working to become a CPA myself.” Maher, an OSCPA member for 13
years, also finds way to tap into her passions through community involvement. She previously helped both the Northwest Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association and the Woodward Roundup Club with pro bono tax preparation. She is the secretary and treasurer of the Mooreland Ag Boosters and the Seth Rutledge Memorial Livestock Show, as well
as serving on the finance committee at New Horizon Methodist Church. Maher also plays clarinet in the Woodward Community Band. One of Maher’s proudest moments was when she was named an honorary Future Farmers of America (FFA) member from the Mooreland FFA Chapter, an honor bestowed upon individuals who help to advance agriculture, agricultural education and the FFA program and who render outstanding service. “Being named the recipient of the
Honorary FFA Member was a small reminder of my roots and the organization that helped mold me into the professional I am today,” Maher said. “I was very fortunate to grow up in a strong agriculture family in northwest Oklahoma and was raised knowing the value of hard work and honesty, as well as what sacrifices came with achieving goals and successes in life. “Charyse is not only a dedicated CPA, but also one of the most passionate people I have had the pleasure of meeting,” said Gregory P. Jones, CPA, a partner in charge with Eide Bailly in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. For Maher, the passion comes naturally. “I firmly believe I am a Trailblazer today because I participated in the FFA program…and also because someone took the time to believe in me and care about my future,” Maher said. “Too many times as professionals, we become so busy and over- involved with our careers that we overlook the opportunities and importance of giving back to others…. I truly cherish the countless hours I have spent volunteering. I know I have played an important role in ensuring the success of many young people through mentoring and volunteering.”
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style.” ~Maya Angelou
