Divisions Discuss School Bond Initiative, Drone Regulations, Other Issues

Engineering Divisions heard presen- tations from California Building Industry Association President Dave Cogdill on AB 2235, the $9 billion School Bond Initiative that will be on the 2016 November ballot. Te AGC-supported initiative will continue a successful existing partnership between the state and local districts to fund mission critical repairs and upgrade classrooms. Te Divisions


also heard from Ernest Brown, Esq., Smith, Currie & Hancock, regarding the latest issues using unmanned drones on construction worksites, as well as from AGC advocate Dave Ackerman who offered updates on key legislation passed or in the works that impacts contractors.

AGC State Board Tackles Myriad Business Issues

October 23 State Board meeting highlighted a wide variety of topics impacting AGC contractors and the industry at the national, state, and regional levels in the legislative and regulatory arenas and well beyond. AGC of America President Chuck


Greco, Linbeck, addressed the State Board about top priorities for AGC at the national level. Among those priorities are passage of a long-term transportation bill and tax reform. Greco also reported on the AGC National business plan focusing on advocacy, membership, workforce development, and more, and encouraged attendees to attend the AGC of America National Convention in Texas scheduled for March 9-11, 2016. AGC of America CEO Steve Sandherr presented an update about the highway and transit funding bill passed in the Senate in July and AGC’s recent efforts in the regulatory arena. AGC of
