A+B project in 47 days, 33 days ahead of schedule, dramatically reducing the potential impact to the traveling public. Te Myers team completed nearly $300,000 worth of work a day, in a short period of time, all in a safe, high- quality manner. Also selected as finalists in this category

Companies, Inc. for St. Jude Medical Center Northwest Tower project, Fullerton


Te new $228 million St. Jude


Medical Center Northwest Tower project, a collaboration of the design- build team of McCarthy Building Companies, Taylor Design, and Petra Integrated Construction Strategies, is a model for best practices in team collaboration and project delivery. Guided by a collaborative partnering approach, the project team’s efforts will have a lasting impact on how future projects are delivered within the St. Jude health system and beyond. Built to replace a seismically


noncompliant tower, the design- build project entailed construction of a 200,000-sq-ft, 4-story acute care building, a 14,000-sq-ft central utility plant, a bridge connecting the new tower to the existing hospital, and other components. Having achieved world-class level

success on previous projects together, the project team wanted to raise the bar and use partnering to reach greater heights. To meet this lofty objective, the team implemented a project-wide


process of continual improvement. A major challenge that the team


overcame was the original location of the project. Faced with logistical challenges, constructability issues, and cost escalation, they worked collab- oratively to develop a better strategy. Te project was repositioned and given a revised scope that met all program needs, while offering an improved schedule and 10 percent reduction in the original budget. Tis was even with $12 million in changes to the original scope including the unanticipated build-out of 50,000 square feet of shell space. Te project ultimately completed five months ahead of schedule. Troughout the project, the team


engaged other stakeholders, donors, and the local community. Some of their efforts included a comprehensive public community plan; formal groundbreaking and steel topping out ceremonies involving project donors, patients and others; fundraising golf tournaments; and hospital donor outreach events. As a further testimony to the


project’s success, the St. Jude project team received a 2015 Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award from AGC of America. 
