T e program doesn’t just break
boundaries in the police department, it does the same in the lives of explorers. “Most kids and young adults are looking
for a mentor and are seeking guidance and direction for their lives,” Jenkins said. “As an advisor, you quickly learn that you become one of their pillar role models.” “T ey will look to you for advice on

enforcement, I believe, chose this career as a direct result of their experiences with our program,” she said. “Our explorers who become police offi cers also enter this profession with an idea of what will be expected of them and what opportunities lie before them.” T e point of the program isn’t to
exclusively usher in the next class of law enforcement offi cers but to “make sure new explorers know that they’re welcomed, wanted, and valued. We encourage our explorers to express themselves, to challenge themselves, and to enjoy the experience,” Jenkins said. “We are teaching youth about being good community leaders with strong, unwavering core values.”
