Culpeper’s parks off er endless experiences Need a beautiful outdoor setting for
a family picnic, to play disc golf or glide through an obstacle course like a ninja? What about a splash pad to beat the summer heat? Culpeper County has you covered. Maybe a scenic walk down a trail is
more your style — listening to the birds or clearing the mind with an invigorating walk. Two parks in Culpeper will meet your needs. Rockwater Park, a municipal park
located conveniently on the south end of the town of Culpeper, is a popular park with a disc golf course, a ninja obstacle course, a playground, a splash pad, climbing rocks, trails and picnic areas. T e park is open from sunrise to sunset. Rockwater is a favorite of many
Culpeper families, sports lovers and beyond. “Personally, we love Rockwater Park due
to several play areas that are close together,” said Laura Brent, a mother who frequents the park. T e splash pad has been the best summer activity I have seen in Culpeper,
and I was born and raised here. It's great because the children are always in sight and sound of the parents.” Kid Central, Culpeper’s largest childcare
provider, used Rockwater Park to entertain children at its popular summer day camp. Last summer, the camp was located at Farmington Elementary School providing an easy walk from school to a park that met several areas of need for campers. “We like timing ourselves on the turf 40-
yard dash area,” said a Kid Central camper. “T e ninja course is so much fun and it can be really tough.” High energy kids love the ninja course
and playground. T e pavilions off er shaded areas for lunch. Homeschoolers also frequently use the park for recess time. “Our family has enjoyed the ninja course
and splash pad the last few years,” said Kirstan Knipple of Culpeper. “We’ve held birthday parties there three years in a row.” “We love taking the grandkids to the
splash pad and having lunch,” said Dave Richardson of Culpeper.
This is what
reducing carbon emissions looks like.
Disc golfers enjoy Rockwater for its 18-
hole, par 57 course and rolling hills. Another stellar green space, Spilman
Park, managed by the Culpeper Parks and Recreation, is in the rural farmlands north of Culpeper near South Wales and Jeff ersonton. T is park off ers a quieter green space
with trails, picnic areas, a playground and an 18-hole, par 56 course with plenty of wooded holes mixed with open holes and mild elevation changes, according to local disc golf players. Disc golf is a rapidly growing sport in
the Culpeper area. T e sport is like golf in its scoring system and approach. Plastic discs are thrown at targets, a small, elevated basket with chains. Each hole varies in distance and diffi culty. “I really appreciate the opportunity to
see disc golf featured and hope it will help the continued growth of this great sport. Disc golf has really taken off , especially in the Culpeper area with tournaments being held at Rockwater and Spilman
That crystal clear, blue sky over head is something we all admire and appreciate. That’s why we work so hard to protect our environment. By using cleaner energy sources like wind and solar, and converting power plants to natural gas, we’ve reduced carbon emissions by nearly 25%. That’s the equivalent of taking nearly two million cars off the road. Because cleaner air and cleaner water is good for all of us.
