BUILDING A STRONGER FOUNDATION Have you given back? By Stephanie Curran

Behind every great venue is a strong foundation, and your IAVM Foundation is behind each and every one of you. We’re not just a group of your industry colleagues and friends con- stantly hounding you for money. Well, we are that, but we are so much more. Your IAVM Foundation was conceived in 1982 after The Who con- cert tragedy in 1979. Our industry was in need of crowd management safety standards so other venues could learn from and, most impor- tantly, prevent a similar tragedy. You called for help, and we answered. The mission of the Founda- tion is to increase the positive impact and vitality of the venue man- agement industry by funding research, education and resource devel- opment.

Since its inception

35 years ago, using the IAVM member contributed resourc- es, your Foundation has made possible Venue Management School (VMS), Acad- emy for Venue Safety & Security (AVSS), the Senior Execu- tive Symposium at Cornell (SES), the   Executive (CFE) des- ignation as well as funding the Venue Data Source and the    - sembly Facility Management college textbook. Most recently, you may remember us for the Build an Amazing Fu-

ture Campaign. In addition to funding opportunities for education, we have a lot of young professional members who need experience. Again, the Foundation answered the call and created the 30 Under 30    As we know all too well, our industry is always changing and grow- ing and new challenges arise all the time. Recently the San Diego Con- vention Center was in an exclusivity contract situation that would have had a profound negative impact on our entire industry. They needed money for a legal brief, and they came to the IAVM Foundation. We     for them, and they won their case. We don’t yet know what the next big issue will be but we do know

that your IAVM Foundation wants to be there when it arises. But we need your help. In order to stay viable, we set a goal to raise $500,000. So far, we’ve

done great, but we’re not there yet. Here is your Foundation by just a few of the numbers from the past

next year and hope you will take the time to consider all that the Foun- dation has done for you, your employees, your industry colleagues, and all that we will continue to do together long into the amazing future.
