Six sites collected their third year of data in


2022, allowing us to make inferences about the final year performance of this trial. Approach 1 sites (Mississippi State, MS, Jay, FL, Stillwater, OK) collected data on percent green cover, carefully watered plots with less than 65 percent green, recorded watering of each plot, and then presented total water applied per entry. At the Approach 1 site in Stillwater, OK, the amount of water needed to maintain at least 65 percent green cover over the drought period varied from 16.7 – 220.3 mm (0.65 – 8.6 inches). Bermuda entries TifTuf (16.7 mm [0.657 in]) and FB 1628 (59.3 mm [2.335 in]) were the only two entries in the top statistical group for least water required in Stillwater. More water was required to maintain 65 percent green cover at the Approach 1 site in Mississippi State, MS. Te lowest water users were all either bermudagrasses: Monaco (76.3 mm [3.001 in]), FB 1628 (101.3 mm [3.988 in]), Rio (102.0 mm [4.016 in]), ASC 119 (135.3 mm [5.327 in]), Tahoma 31 (143.7 mm [5.657 in]), ASC 118 (144.0 mm [5.669 in]) or the buffalograss Cody (144.0 mm [5.669 in]), where the entry with the greatest water use needed 338.7 mm (13.335 inches). At the remaining Approach 1 site in Jay, FL,


statistical significance was much smaller than at the Mississippi State and Stillwater locations. At Jay, bermudas TifTuf (22.0 mm [0.866 in]), FB 1628 (43.0 mm [1.693 in]), and Rio (43.3 mm [1.705 in]), along with nine other entries finished in the top statistical group. Other entries requiring less than two inches (50.8 mm) of water at Jay

include Monaco bermuda (47.3 mm [1.862 in]) and Cody buffalograss (47.7 mm [1.878 in]). Te Ft. Lauderdale site’s growing season is twelve


months; therefore their Approach 2 testing period is much longer than the others. Te surprising result from 2022 was how poorly overall the entries performed even at the 60 percent ETo


replacement. In 2021, on most turf quality


rating dates, all entries had scores at or above the minimum acceptable quality level of 6, even under the 30 percent ETo


Data from 2022 varied considerably from previous years and resulted in performance below acceptable quality levels (<6.0) on almost all rating dates. A few entries, including TifTuf, FAES 1306, and FAES 1307 finished the growing season with acceptable turf quality ratings (6.0+) on three or more early rating dates under 30 percent ETo Te 45 percent ETo


irrigation. and 60 percent ETo replacement levels

level, with multiple rating dates of acceptable quality (6.0+ for each). .
