“In my opinion, joy is deeper than happiness, as it is given by God.
I like to think that God has given me joy in simple things like running, so that I can share His joy with others.”
When most would say they are going to train for their sport, Sonya She isn’t afraid to adapt to the seasons either.
“‘Training’ is what some people call it, but I prefer to call it ‘having fun.’ I like to run anywhere and everywhere year-round, but swim- ming helps with the heat in the summer and basketball/gym time/ indoor rock climbing in the winter.” Along with her impressive runs at the state cross country meet, Sonya placed sixth in districts as a freshman, second as a sophomore and ran to a district cham- pionship last year. She’s also earned Aca- demic All-State honors.
“Sonya is a talented athlete, one of the hardest working you’ll ever meet,” said Cal- vary Cross Country Coach Kerri Morris. “She puts 110% into everything. She is also one - mate, always supporting her teammates and other competitors. She is strong in her faith. Her running talent is a gift from God, and she celebrates that.”
Sonya has a bright future ahead of her as she keeps on “Brunning”
