What’s Happening in Women’s Ministries in May and June? By Vicki Marsh

T

hanks to all of you who tried the “small things” experiment and contributed extra monies to Bonclarken and the Jubilee Birthday fund this year! Small amounts do add up and it all helps to finance the agencies of the ARP denomination who have been hit hard by the recent pandemic. Thanks for your help! Julia Hardeman Rhodes was instrumental in organizing Women’s Ministries into Presbyterials in the

early 1900’s. She was a member of the Louisville ARP Church in Louisville, Georgia and had a vision for the women. She began The Synodical Journal which was the forerunner of today’s ARP Magazine. Julia Hardeman Rhodes spent her life in service to her church, community, and her denomination. In recognition of all that she did, the Julia Hardeman Rhodes Award is presented annually to an ARP man or woman, in her honor, for ex- cellence in dedication and service to the church and/or denomination. For more information or an application to nominate someone, go to the Christian Education Ministry website (arpcem.org/JHR Award). The deadline for nominations to be accepted is May 31st. There is a plaque in Synodical Hall and at The ARP Center which lists recent recipients of this award. The 2020 winner was Gail Fowler from Fayetteville, Tennessee. Synodical Hall is the only building on the Bonclarken grounds which is owned solely by Women’s Minis-

tries, is budgeted in the ARPWM funds each year for routine maintenance. Big items, like the recent upgraded handicap accessible restroom, have to be funded by donations. I have mentioned in the past that the floors in Synodical need to be replaced and some updates need to be done inside and outside of the building. Hope- fully, we will be able to have the Silver Tea during Family Bible Conference this year and donations given there will help but will not be enough to accomplish all that needs to be done. If you or your group would like to contribute to this effort, please contact Libby Elder (lbby-elder@yahoo.com) to get information on where to send the money. Libby is currently the treasurer of ARP Women’s Ministries. In an effort to help to defray the cost of new floors and renovations in Synodical Hall, we have made a

calendar for 2022 which includes a church from each presbytery and a couple of pictures of Bonclarken. The calendar features a verse each month along with facts about the church or picture featured. It also includes some dates such as Family Bible Conference and Music Conference and other events. The calendar is called Jesus is the Reason for All of the Seasons! Calendars will be available at several Bonclarken events and through presbyterial presidents in each presbytery for $15.
