May
What are your favorite things to do? What are your interests? God has blessed each of His children with unique gifts and talents- and He’s given you your gift for a reason. Do you aspire to become a fa- mous athlete, or do you delight in the world of music? Maybe you excel in science, or maybe you’re at your best when you’re surround- ed by animals. You may have a long list of things, but if you don’t that’s okay. Ask your parents, grandparents, or someone else close to you what they think are your gifts. They might have some sug- gestions that you didn’t even think about. Your gift might be some- thing simple. Maybe you are a capable speaker, or maybe you are a good listener. Maybe you enjoy helping your mom with housework. Whatever your special gift is, God wants you to use it for his honor and glory.
How? Well, God has graciously given us lots of time, not just time to complete our daily obligations, but also free time that we can do what we wish with. Especially as summer break approaches, we will start to have extra spare time on our hands. Do you use that spare time in ways that glorify God? You may have to make a few sacrifices.
• Instead of watching a show on TV, you could use that time to write an uplifting letter to a friend.
• If you feel at home in the kitchen, maybe you can cook a meal for somebody you know who is going through a difficult time. You could even cook dinner for your family and give your parents the night off! (Be sure to check with them before you take over though.)
• If you are an athlete, you can do your best to be an encouraging team- mate and to show good sportsman- ship. Who knows- even just an uplifting compliment might brighten a friend’s day!
There are endless ways to serve God with our time, gifts, and talents. Since God has given us so much, we should strive to give Him the glory and praise He deserves. The Apostle Peter tells us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faith- ful stewards of God’s grace in its various form. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
Read the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30, and discuss it with a parent, friend, or sibling. Ask God to show you ways that you can glorify Him, not only in your free time, but in every moment of every day. Thank Him for providing you with your own special gifts and talents. He loves you so much!
