CHILD SPONSORSHIP

There has been a great need for the child sponsorship program to receive new attention, given its poor visibility in the denomination. It will be helpful to briefly visit the history of this program. In 1971, the ARP schools were nationalized by the Pakistan government. In a 2011 good-faith gesture to the West, the schools were offered back to us. A long endeavor began to relaunch these schools and has continued until today. We have two main campuses together educating over 700 students. The majority of students are ARP, with a minority of them being Muslim.

In recent months, we became aware of how few U.S. ARP congregants actually knew of the existence of these schools. A new campaign has begun to educate U.S. ARP members on this great need. World Witness is emphasizing that:

• Without education, most of these ARP children would follow in their parents’ footsteps and be resigned to

a life of hard labor (making clay bricks in the outdoor ovens, sweeping the streets, hand-beating wheat, etc.)

• Education is what breaks the cycle of poverty and gives these children a chance at a future their parents

never had.

• These children are our spiritual family. Many ARP churches have members who already sponsor children

globally (e.g., World Vision, Compassion International, etc.); however, the children here being discussed are our direct spiritual descendants.

We encourage ARP churches to see these children as part of our spiritual family. Whether or not people already sponsor children, we always “make room for family.” We have called upon PAK7 to help us shoot a program that we will air in ARP churches in the fall of 2021.
