Arsenal Hill Mission Church By Rachel Turner T

his summer while many of our usual activities were put on hold because of the corona virus, a member of the Ar- senal Hill Mission Church had a wonderful idea of a way for folks in our church to get to know each other better and build stronger connections to one another. One of our Sunday School teachers started Arsenal Hill W.A.Y. - a

newsletter and video series where several of the youth of the church interviewed people from the church to learn more about their background, interests, and faith. Each week the students would talk with an adult in the church about what church was like when they were growing

up, how they ended up coming to Arsenal Hill Church, and one hope they have for the future. Those interviewed includ- ed the volunteer church cook, members of the worship team, two missionary kids, and the oldest member of the church who has been a member for all of her life. And at the end of each interview the students and the interviewee would par- ticipate in a competition or a game. These competitions included an egg drop, a butter carving contest, and a foot race. The relationships and connections fostered by this project have been a great blessing, especially as individuals and

families in the church have faced different challenges over the last few months. Because of this, we have been more faith- ful and earnest in prayer for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Excerpt of student interview with Elbert Towles: When you were a kid what was your “church experience” like? Wow, my mom sent my sister and I to church every

Sunday. Some Sundays when my mom felt well enough we would go as a family. How did you end up at Arsenal Hill? I was invited by Pastor Rob. When did you start cooking? My mom taught me how to cook. My mom was a quadriplegic, so at the age of two, she

would have me stand on the chair at the stove and cook. Naturally, she told me what to put in the pot and I would watch over it and stir. So that’s how I started to cook!

Arsenal Hill is unique… what is your favorite quirk? The feel of different races and backgrounds, yet we worship together and serve the same God.

Excerpt of student interview with

Rebecca (Becky) Riley: When you were a kid what was your

“church experience” like? My church experience as a child was always very positive. In Sunday School we would sing songs and hear Bible storied, and Bible school each summer was always fun. I can remember too that when I was young we had church picnics out on the lake.

Why do you still go to church now? I

am a Christian, and so I go to church so that I can worship with other Christians.?
