THREE GENERATIONS One Sunday afternoon last fall at a 125-year-old church, three generations of Erskine graduates gathered for the ordi-
nation of the Rev. Luke A. Grigsby (B.A., 2010; M.Div., 2018). The service was held November 8, 2020 at the historic First Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church in Rock Hill, S.C., where Grigsby has been serving as youth director under the mentorship of the Rev. Dr. Barry Dagenhart (M.Div. 1982; D.Min. 1993), senior pastor and a former member of the Erskine Board of Trustees. At the service, the call to worship was given by Dr. Robert Alexander (B.A., 1973), a ruling elder of First ARP Church
and former adjunct professor of ethics at Erskine Seminary. The Rev. Robert Elliot III (B.A., 1989; M.Div., 1992) led the invocation and Dagenhart preached from I Timothy 1:1-7 a sermon titled “The Aim of Your Charge is Love.” Other members of the Catawba Presbytery Ordination Commission were involved in the service as well. Moderator
and current Erskine Seminary student Greg Delleney, Jr. led the service of ordination, while the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Rob- inson (B.A., 1958; B.D., 1961), pastor emeritus of First ARP Church, offered the ordination prayer. Dr. Robinson is both a former trustee of the Erskine Board and a former moderator of the ARP General Synod. “It was humbling and a blessing to see these godly men gathered for my ordination service,” Grigsby said. “Their pres-
ence reminded me of the Lord’s faithfulness to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Personally, it meant a great deal because of their investment in me as a candidate for pastoral ministry. And it was also a testament to the mission and education of Erskine College and Seminary because of the many generations represented. My prayer is that I will continue in their footsteps by being a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Also in attendance was the Rev. Andrew Shoger (B.A., 2001; M.Div., 2011), pastor of Coddle Creek ARP Church in
Mooresville, N.C. and current member of the Erskine Board of Trustees. Grigsby has been called to serve alongside Shoger as associate pastor. His wife Molly and their two daughters, Tinsley and Rosie, are enjoying their new church home in Mooresville, N.C.?
