Thankful in All Things BY RON BEARD
Last weekend Sherwood told his parents that he could not wait until school
was out for the summer. His Mom smiled and said, “I couldn’t wait for school to be out when I was in school either!” He told them that it was different now. They didn’t have two days in school,
home one day and school the next two days every week. Some others went to school every day and some didn’t go to school at all but studied at home. Who knows about next week, because it could all change. He said that they really didn’t understand all that he had to put up with. He had to wear a mask over his nose and mouth the whole day. Everybody had to stay 6 feet away from every- body else, even when walking down the halls. He really did not understand why he had to wash his hands over and over even when they weren’t dirty. His parents looked at each other, then Dad said, “Maybe it might help to think
about all of this in a different way. Instead of complaining we should be thank- ful to God that men and women who worked in the labs had created a shot to prevent the Covid virus from infecting us.” “We need to thank God that nurses and doctors are willing to take the time
to give the shots. And how about the companies and people that learned how to make masks that keep us from infecting each other. God helped some really smart people to figured out how to keep us safe until the virus is gone.” “Remember when school is out, and the virus isn’t a threat, we can hug each
other, we can begin to travel fun places like we used to do, and sooner or later, it will all be over and done with.” After thinking about it, Sherwood realized that even in the middle of the co-
vid problems and all the unpleasant stuff, we need to be thankful to God for using all those people to help us stay safe.?
By Mary Drew Bult Use these ideas to create a one-of-a-kind scrapbook that contains all your precious summer memories!
You’ll need: • A large blank notebook • Colorful pens and markers • Drawing paper • Tape and scissors • A camera
Ideas: • Write down any special event that you want to remember (Family vacations, pool parties, funny moments, etc.).
• Draw pictures pf anything that inspires you (a beautiful sunset, a chirping bird, a magnificent ice cream sundae).
• Record your thoughts, questions, and anything that you’re learning about God and His word. What is God teaching you this summer?
• Jot down favorite Bible verses. • Decorate your pages (and maybe even your cover) with stickers, colorful doodles, or anything else that inspires you.
• Take lots of photos over the summer, and print them out later to add to your scrapbook. • Collect mementos that bring back sweet memories and tape them in your notebook as the summer goes on. (Airplane tickets, a seagull feather, pressed flowers, or even a gum wrapper. (If it reminds you of something special, then go for it!).
• Don’t forget to write the dates on each of your pages. You’ll be glad you did later on. I hope you have tons of fun with this project. It truly is a wonderful way to preserve special memo-
ries. Ask a parent, grandparent, friend, or sibling to help you with your scrapbook and enjoy each other’s company while using your creativity. Also, your scrapbook doesn’t have to cover the whole summer. You can record a single week or a
single trip. I nearly filled up an entire notebook with memories from one week-long beach vacation a few years ago! Remember, the best part of keeping a scrapbook is that you get to look back and reread it. A few
years from now, you will pull out your scrapbook and all those precious memories will come back to you. Your scrapbook will certainly become a lifelong treasure. Have a wonderful summer!
