STADIUMS:
A WALK TO THE SHOW
email platform. As Mister Rodgers sung to us, “It’s a beautiful day in the neigh- borhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?” Whether our events are in urban areas or suburban including the surrounding residential and retail buildings. To protect our guests when walking to the show, we can increase our security and guest experience teams by utilizing our neighboring buildings’ communication amongst private and public buildings, do you have platforms to do that such as a dedicated security group or a radio buildings? Working with your neighbors to include them in your emergency response programs, day-to-day venue operating plans, and your security plans can provide a greater sense of security and positive experience for your guests attending your event. Working with your neighbors to organize coordinated security checks to iden- tify suspicious activity or hazards in soft target areas including the
exterior of buildings, parking ramps/lots, building roof access, and surrounding streets and sidewalks. When was the last time you spoke to your neighbor? Understanding your guests and the event is critical to crowd man- agement. Working collaboratively with all building external and in- ternal partners through pre-planning stages and execution is vital to venue. What might work for a football game may not work for a con- cert; however, general crowd behavior may remain the same. Under- standing how people perceive and react to your venue’s environment helps with creating the right plans to encourage safe fan behavior. Fan behavior will continue to change over time, and as we host
be our goal to protect our fans as they are walking to the show. It is the walk to the show that people will remember, and it is the walk to and safe experience. Billy Langenstein, CSSP, is director, event services at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. FM
