Actively engaging in conversations about your venue with indi- viduals who aren’t venue managers is a great way to increase your confidence in public speaking. Developing the skillset to not only stand in front of a crowd but to also publicly advertise and ad- vocate for your venue is a skill that every leader should strive to cultivate.


Getting involved in organizations that allow each individual to


share their venue’s news, as does working with hospitality coun- cils, gives you practice in this area. People will get excited about what excites you and it helps build trust for the community to see your face outside of your facility. While people may not remem- ber everything you say, they will remember how you make them feel. If you can manage to get out in the community and make people feel important, the chances of them wanting to work with you will increase. Involvement in personal organizations is a fan- tastic way to have these relational interactions. There are innumerable ways to get involved locally and nation-


ally. Getting involved is one of the many key ingredients in profes- sional and personal development. When you give professionally,
