It’s show day. Catering is off without a hitch, but there are already struggles with the load-in crew and tour security. There is an uneasiness in the air. You knew this was going to be a hard one. Your phone dings incessantly with calendar and text message updates. It is 9 AM, you glance down as your phone vibrates again, “New Intern Starts” appears on the screen, and the time reminder says NOW. As you walk into your ofice suite, there they sit … wide-eyed, nervous, in new clothes, just like you were years ago. The purpose of this article is to ensure you are never caught off-guard by a new intern again. The following are best prac- tices developed by the faculty and career services staff of Johnson & Wales University (JWU) to help you best select, on- board, and effectively manage a student intern that will result in a successful internship for both the intern and your venue.


#3 - Plan in advance of placement: 
