Sustainability Center” Te Caltech Resnick Sustainability Center serves as the hub for energy and sustainability research on campus and is home to state-of-the-art under- graduate teaching laboratories. Designed to foster collaboration and innovation among scientists, engi-
neers, students, and faculty from various disciplines, the facility incorporates numerous sustainability features. Tese include a high-performance exterior envelope, a fully glazed north atrium and a western façade that maximiz- es natural light, solar shading fins that reduce heat gain, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems, and a mass timber frame that reduces embodied carbon. Hensel Phelps implemented several innovative processes and technologies to achieve the project’s goals. Tese included prefabrication techniques to streamline construction, reduce waste and enhance quality control, and lean construction principles, which optimized workflows, reduced inefficiencies and improved collaboration. Also selected as finalists in this category were Clark Construction for “UCSF
Bayfront Medical Building at Mission Bay;” McCarthy Building Companies for “Gregory Bateson Building Renovation;” and Swinerton for “Orange County Sanitation District Headquarters Building.”
