NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR GIRLS ON THE RUN
PIEDMONT Katie Oleson, program director, accepted the 2024 Nonprofi t of the Year award for Girls on the Run. The program began in Culpeper in 2013, serving young ladies from 3rd – 8th grades. Led by local volunteers, the program uses running as a vehicle to teach participants how to live a healthier life and foster self-esteem. Their model inspires joy and self-awareness. It is designed for girls of all abilities and strengths to build confi dence and understand their inner strengths.

OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Culpeper is a better place to live thanks to the dedication and hard work of Winona Pritts. She plays a vital role in the community, both through her personal and professional life, leading initiatives that support local businesses, agriculture, and workforce development. She hosts and promotes Be A Culpeper Local Week, which saw a remarkable 480% increase in resident participation in 2024. Pritts also coordinates Culpeper’s annual Farm Tour and, through the relationships built along the way, created Choose Culpeper Farms — an initiative that connects the community with local farmers and producers year-round. She serves as Chair of the Culpeper Chamber Young Professionals, on the board of Career Partners Inc., and on the Rotary Club of Culpeper. Through Career Partners programs, she has mentored students and coached programs at the high schools, in addition to volunteering with Culpeper County Public Schools and other community organizations, such as Culpeper Renaissance Inc.
