they are part of a family, and for residents to truly feel at home. While Spring Oak has been around for
more than 20 years, originally established in New Jersey by founder David Sebbag, it has quickly expanded to encompass 10 locations throughout New Jersey and Virginia. Spring Oak opened its Culpeper location in February 2024, renovating an abandoned space to once again provide a special space for Culpeper’s aging residents. “Because Spring Oak is smaller than other communities, we are able to develop
more intimate relationships with residents, and I believe it makes us stand out,” said Executive Director Karen Moreno. “Residents get to be very involved with the direction of their activities, their care and even their food.” While Culpeper has limited resources
for dementia care in assisted living facilities, Spring Oak has a blend of residents that includes those aff ected by the disease. With dementia populations increasing by 18%, it is likely that most communities will have to fi nd creative solutions to address this growing issue in the future. “We need to be putting our resources
into the right establishments and industries,” Moreno said. “It is less about the bottom line, and more about making it work for people. Our mission statement is ‘Welcome to the Family,’ and we treat them like family and want them to stay in their homes for as long as they possibly can!” As time passes, Culpeper residents
can be confi dent that the community will remain dedicated to providing the essential services and resources that help make the community a great place to live, and age gracefully!
