a contractor and then turn a GCPRA sanction form to get approval. The producer works with their community to get sponsors to help pay for the expenses of the rodeo. Advertisement is a key component to having a successful rodeo because the spectators and fans pay an entry fee at the gate to watch the rodeo and this helps with the large expenses of a rodeo.
You over see the Broncs riding exhibition? What are your duties? The duties of a director for the bronc riding director has quite a few different things we must look out for. One we must make sure the livestock we are using are healthy, well taken care of and able to perform to the best of their abilities. Make sure the riders and stock contractors equipment is safe for both the contestant and horses. Also we make sure that the events flow smoothly in a timely manner to put on a great show for the crowd. Also we are there to help with riders or judges inputs or discrepancies and find the best solution if we come across any of those situations.
Do you have the same stock contractor for all the GCPRA rodeos? The board of director must approve the stock contractors for the GCPRA. To become an approved stock contractor they must bring new rodeos to the association and have the Board of Directors ap- proval. We currently have four approved stock contractors. The com- mittees are responsible to hire one of the approved stock contractors for their rodeo.
We saw many young contestants at the GCPRA finals, all real nice and welcomed us with open arms. As young contestants what is going on in their minds just before a bronc ride? What are the preparations to prepare for bronc riding? As the contestants get prepped for their ride every rider is different,
but it’s all an adrenaline rush leading up to the ride, being behind the bucking chutes they make sure all their gear is ready and they are all stretched out and warmed up. They look at the draw to see what horse they have drawn to compete on and talk to one another about past trips the horse has had before. All of them have one goal in mind to win the gold buckle and paycheck at the end of the day!
