all the fantastic and gifted people at Vanderbilt for all their care. For someone who has been diagnosed I would say do your research. Do exactly what your doctors say immediately and do not give up. I also would speak to survivors. Meeting a man that had been diagnosed similar to me and was still living cancer free helped me more than anyone could ever know.
What were the signs or symptoms prior to your diagnosis that you experienced? What are the preventative measures? Based on your experience, do you think the screening to colorectal cancer should be moved to 40 plus, instead of 50 plus? I do agree, screen- ing should be moved to an earlier age, especially if there is a family history. That is the number 1 determining factor, and younger people are getting this disease. If you have a family history you need to be screened! My symptoms were abdominal discomfort, lethargy, and bleeding. I was in a great amount of discomfort when I finally went to the doctor, and I almost waited too late.
If you were given one do over? What would that be? I cannot say this experience has been completely negative. It happened. I have developed a much deeper appreciation for this incredible gift of life. I have realized how grossly I took it for granted, and am trying my best to fill it with things that matter, i.e. friends, family, church and love.
Favorite love song? Favorite romantic movie or Romcom? My fa- vorite song, which in my opinion is the ultimate love song is “Angel Flying too Close to the Ground”. In this case, a man loves a woman so much he is willing to let her go for her happiness.
The February Issue theme is “Heart Healthy for You and Your Horses”, what do you do (diet, exercise, etc) to ensure a healthy lifestyle? March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, will you be speaking or participating?
https://www.ccalliance.org/ I ad- justed my diet to a more healthy intake when I got sick. I eat very little red meat, dairy, processed meat/food, and eat more vegetables, raw and cooked. I also do a juice of apples, carrots, celery and ginger root. I regularly attend a gym and work out usually 4-5 days a week.
