GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
to being elected as a member of the California Assembly, Fuentes served the City of Los Angeles from 1999 to 2007 as Deputy Mayor, Council Presi- dent’s Chief of Staff and City Council district staff. Until his resignation from the Los Angeles City Council to accept the advocacy responsibilities for AGC in September, he served as Energy and Environment Committee Chair for the Los Angeles City Council. “I’m thrilled to join AGC as
their lead advocate. My experience in government, business degree and concern for the state of California’s aging infrastructure make this oppor- tunity to work as an advocate for AGC a perfect fit,” said Los Angeles City Councilmember Fuentes. During his time as a State
Assembly member, Fuentes served on various committees working to improve the lives of California residents. He chaired the Appropria- tions Committee, the Utilities and Commerce Committee, and the Revenue and Taxation Committee. He also chaired the Assembly’s Select Committee on the Revitalization of the Los Angeles River and Pacoima Wash. As an Assembly member, he
authored legislation spurring economic development including a $100-million- dollar annual tax credit for the film and television industry. Fuentes most recently authored the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) governance reform ballot measure going before Los Angeles City voters in November 2016. Te measure will give voters an oppor- tunity to change the City’s charter to make the LADWP more responsive to ratepayers, remove civil service rules constraining the utility and open opportunities to outside contracting. Fuentes’ family has lived and
worked in the Northeast San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles for over 50 years. He attended local public schools,
graduating from San Fernando High School, later earning a degree in political science from UCLA and an MBA from the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University. As a member of the State Legislature and Los Angeles City Council, Fuentes
represented the 39th Assembly District and 7th Council District in Los Angeles. Fuentes has relocated to the Sacra-
mento area with his wife, Lena, and their 10-year-old daughter, Illiana.
