the Kings describe as a “radical cooling system, powered by Sacramento’s “Delta Breeze” and displacement venti- lation strategies,” along with low-flow plumbing, storm-water recapture strat- egies and myriad other green features. Food concessions emphasize “farm-to- fork” options, with some 90 percent of the food and drinks to come from a network of 750 sustainable farmers located within 150 miles of the arena.
Building an Urban Landmark Turner Construction broke
ground on the project two years ago in October 2014. Troughout the two-year construction schedule, the project team faced various construction challenges ranging from dewatering issues on a site that was approximately 15 feet below the water table at times, to the logistics of building in a busy
downtown area and more. “Working in an urban environment
makes it very difficult to stage material on a project of this size,” said Turner project engineer Eric Lynch. “We used just in time delivery, evening delivery
and pre-assembled components to help mitigate the lack of storage for construction material.” Te project incorporates massive
material quantities, including 45,520 cubic yards of concrete, approximately
