Figure 4: Images of water sensitive spray cards after application of water with PermaGreen Triumph Spreader/Sprayer at 10.9 gal/ac using a single TF-VS3 Turbo FloodJet nozzle to deliver extra coarse droplets at 30 psi (A), a Z-Spray Junior at 10 gal/ac using Albuz AVI-110025 nozzles on a 4-nozzle boom to de- liver coarse droplets at 50 psi (B), a Lesco ChemLawn Spray Gun at 87 gal/ac delivering ultra coarse droplets at 30 psi (C), and a hand-held boom sprayer with XR8002VS flat fan nozzles at 87 gal/ac delivering fine droplets at 30 psi (D). Te yellow contact paper turns blue/purple when in contact with water droplets.
The core take-away messages from this research include:
1. Common broadleaf weeds are equally controlled by postemergence herbicides using a range of commercially available turf application equipment.
2. Low carrier volume equipment with coarse droplet sizes provided acceptable postemergence broadleaf weed control in this study.
Turf herbicide labels need to be updated to indicate when low-volume application equipment is effective.
