TPI PRESIDENT ERIC HEUVER—STRATEGICALLY EVOLVING YET ALWAYS TRUE TO CORE VALUES

By Suz Trusty

Editor’s Note: Eric Heuver was elected to a three-year term on the TPI Board of Trustees in July of 2013. An article about him and Eagle Lake Professional Landscape Supply appeared in the March/April 2015 issue of Turf News. Tat article is available on the TPI website, www.TurfGrassSod. org or by contacting your editors. A brief recap is included in this article.

Eric Heuver began his term as TPI Presi- dent on January 1, 2019.

Eric Heuver, TPI president and president of Eagle Lake Professional Landscape Supply, is a team builder who strongly believes defining core values and developing an ever-evolving strategic plan benefits a business and an association. An out-of-the box, strategic thinker he views change as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Looking Back—The Recap Eric Heuver earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Nova Scotia Agricultural College and then joined the family’s nursery and sod farm business. After ten years, he followed the prompting of his entrepreneurial spirit with the amicable purchase of the sod farm division in 1998, forming Eagle Lake Turf Farm Ltd. Initially the new company rented the land in Strathmore, Alberta, and paid for the sod inventory as it was sold. It has since become a totally independent, separate company with no cross ownership.

“TPI has been a huge influence for me personally and in the business,” says Heuver. He attended his first meeting with his Dad in 1980, when the organization, which was then named Te American Sod Producers Association (ASPA), held its summer meeting in Edmonton, Alberta. He has been a TPI member for over 20 years and has served on Te Lawn institute Research Committee. In 2008, Eagle Lake hosted the TPI summer field day, which Heuver describes as, “An incredible experience and an honor ‘to kind of host the world.’” He served as TPI Secretary/Treasurer in 2016/2017 and as Vice President in 2017/2018.
