Last year, on December 26,
I got a phone call from a boy who used to attend my club. His phone call was short, “Miss Esther, I just wanted to call and wish you a Merry Christmas. And tell you thanks, for teaching me the true meaning of why we celebrate.” A few months ago, I
got a text from this boy’s sister, stating that their mom had died in her sleep. Although this Christmas will be difficult for them, they know the hope that Jesus gives.

A Live Nativity Outreach Humboldt Leads Tours to "Bethlehem"
by MARSHA BRANDOW
After being involved in the live nativity in Rhineland, Saskatchewan, for years, we decided to try and do one in Humboldt (Humboldt Bible Church, Humboldt, Saskatchewan). We have tried to do one every other year. It is a come-and-go production from 7p.m. – 9p.m. on a Friday and Saturday in December, with tours leaving about every ten minutes.
When people arrive they are greet-
ed by someone dressed in costume who assigns them to one of the 12 tribes of Israel, which is how we keep track of how many are in a group. We try not to have more than 20, just so everyone can see and hear. To keep our tours flowing, we have a couple tour guides who begin by calling whichever tribe is to go next.
Our church is fortunate enough
to be on the edge of town and to have an empty spot and field behind us.
We change up our script every year. We start inside one of the rooms in the church with Isaiah the proph- et or in the sanctuary with Herod and the wisemen before moving outside. This allows those who cannot
be outside that long to also take part. The tours travel to the shepherds with their sheep, through the mar- ketplace with the Roman soldiers, to the inn and lastly the stable with Mary and Joseph. We have been able to borrow animals from a couple different people, one of whom does not go to church but came to the live nativity to see her animals. The animals are always a hit. We usually have sheep, goats and a donkey. One year we also had a bunny in our marketplace which was heated with a propane heater.
We have found it to be a great
outreach opportunity in our com- munity, although, at first, no one was sure what it was and thought you had to be outside for the whole two hours, which would be
cold!
