Cornerstone Bible Church

Mountain Lake, Minnesota Herms Banico, Pastor cornerstoneml.com

Interim Pastor, Jim Bartsch, spent much time on processing appli- cations of pastoral candidates for the search committee who have met regularly. Therefore, Hermie Banico’s name rose as an interested candidate and the opportunity to visit and speak happened during the second weekend in October. Hermie and Jana received an over- whelming positive vote with plans to arrive November 9, to speak for our Harvest Festival service on November 14.

Much appreciation is extended to Jim and Esther Bartsch for their year of service as interims. We wish them God’s blessings as they enter retirement, living in Omaha, Ne- braska. Welcome them at Commu- nity Bible Church!

Fellowship meals have happened fre- quently for our church this summer with visits from our missionaries. The Byron Anderson’s, the Ethan Tabbert’s, the Darwin Stoesz’s visits preceded Jim Wiens and children from Volgograd, Russia, and a surprise visit from Pablo and Judi Perez serving in Quito, Ecuador. The surprise created a family reunion for former pastor, Frank Wiens’ 90th birthday! Well known in the FEBC conference circles, Frank and Ethel chose Mountain Lake to spend their retirement years. They arrived a couple months ago. Their son, Gary, is a pastor in the area.

Andrew Rhodes was welcomed into our membership on Sunday, September 5.

A women’s 7-week Bible study called “Truthfilled,” by Ruth Chou Simons, is led by Sharon Harder this fall. A great study using Colossians.

Crosspoint has experienced so many changes in the past year. It has been a huge blessing to see God answer so many prayers. Specifically, the Lord has brought some amazing new staff to us this year! We’re so thankful for them and can’t wait to see how the Lord uses them.

This year was our first ever Trunk or Treat event on Halloween. The night started with a chili competi- tion and ended with trunk or treat- ing in our parking lot. The event was an opportunity for those in the com- munity around Crosspoint to get plugged in. Our women’s ministry, The Collective, continues to meet monthly. Their annual Friendsgiving dinner, a salad supper, encouraged women to bring friends from outside Crosspoint to fellowship together.

Our youth and Awana programs have continued meeting weekly, with over 130 kids attending Awana. Christmas activities include the children's musical on December 11-12, and "Simply Christmas," a worship program on Christmas Eve. Our church is collecting Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

We are praising God for the way he has worked. We are looking forward to how he will work in the time to come.

This fall several men, aged 20–70, signed up for a new initiative called Triads. Groups of three meet twice each month to follow up on com- mitments to read, pray and limit

time on devices on a daily basis. The goal is to help men grow, be chal- lenged and to connect. These Triads will be supplemented by monthly large-group breakfast gatherings.

We were blessed with three bap- tisms and six memberships in Sep- tember. Three babies were dedicat- ed in October.

Youth participated in Rake and Run, where they went out and raked people’s yards. At another event they enjoyed time at a corn maze.

Due to COVID19 it’s hard to some- times plan events. We are holding back from some activities. We still livestream our services.

One Christmas tradition that we have is serving peppernuts and ap- ple cider. We always have a Christ- mas Eve service.

Evangelical Bible Church welcomed their new Youth Pastor, Andrew (Mariah) Wheeler in October. Andrew recently graduated from Corban University with his bache- lor’s degree and is working to finish his master’s degree in May.

We are looking forward to our annual Harvest Meal returning this year as well as the return of our Children’s Christmas Play.

We spent a lot of time this year updat- ing our new website and expanding our reach to people in our community. You can find updates each month on our website via our monthly newslet- ter “The Sentinel” at ebcdallas.org.

A big change this year in our resourc- es was adding a RightNow Media ac- count. It gets used for Sunday School
