Resources: Swot Analysis

by KEVIN STONE, PRESIDENT

We are continuing a series of articles highlighting the resources that have been devel- oped as part of our Vision Statement: “Strengthening our churches with timely resourc- es that strengthen their leaders.”

Recently, we released the FEBC SWOT An ysi To . ASW

tool used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that are faced by an organization. The results of this analysis can be used in many ways to sh ways to shape the preferred future of the church. For instance, when determinining a new Vision Statement or setting priorities. One specific instance where we recommend a SWOT analysis is when pre- paring the job description and job profile for a new Lead Pastor.

A SWOT can be done with a large group or a small group, and the results can have wide-ranging implications. Every- thing from the vision of the church and d rec on of ndi ministries to the priorities reflected in the annual budget can be impacted by this exercise.

• Strengths – Internal factors that con- tribute to accomplishing our vision

• Weaknesses – Internal factors that hinder accomplishing our vision

t

• Opportunities – External factors that are helpful to our vision

• Threats – External factors that could damage our church

The FEBC resource comes with two documents:

1. FEBC SWOT Analysis Tool – The ac- tual assessment tool, with instructions for participants

2. FEBC Leading a SWOT Analysis – Provides instructions and assistance for church lead who will administer the analysis
