Balanced Environments, Inc. RECEIVES A NATIONAL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

BALANCED ENVIRONMENTS, INC. (BEI) is proud to announce it has been awarded an Award of Excellence - SILVER AWARD by the National Association of Landscape Professionals for Rosalind Franklin University campus landscape and maintenance.

The Rosalind Franklin University medical school campus has been a BEI client since April 1, 2004. This 97-acre property with 48-acres of groomed campus and 20 acres of non-permeable parking lot sits in the northern suburbs of Chicago. BEI does all land and snow work on the campus along with irrigation, arborist duties and tree maintenance, pond and fountain improvements and upkeep plus design and installation of all new landscape. In the winter, they are charged with keeping 3 miles of sidewalks and 48 acres of parking lot clear. BEI has 8 full-time crew members dedicated to the site along with 2 end loaders, 2 skid steers, brooms, salt trucks, plow trucks and a large out-of-the-way staging area with 800-ton salt storage capacity.

There are 2 courtyards that BEI designed, planted, and maintain on the quad. One of which celebrates Rosalind Franklin’s achievement as the first individual to photograph DNA. BEI designed the “donation walkway” main entrance circle pavers to mimic the groundbreaking imagery of the DNA photograph and can be seen from many angles inside and outside of the main building. This stunning symbol of Rosalind Franklin uses pavers with over 10,000 colored bricks custom engraved with donors’ names on each stone. This display is surrounded by seasonal plantings and anchored by a bronze bust of the inventor and chemist. The south courtyard features a 4-story sculpture of a helix strand as depicted by an artist’s rendition. This piece is surrounded by seasonal plantings and

benches to highlight the sculpture and give students a chance to stop and admire the helix they study at this prestigious medical school.

Each year, the National Association Landscape Professionals Awards of Excellence recognizes exceptional commercial and residential lawn care and landscape installation, maintenance, and design projects from around the nation. This year 246 awards were bestowed to companies for their outstanding work.
